Summary

Since the prosperous 2018 year, China-Ethiopia economic and trade relations have continued to deepen, with significant progress made in areas such as trade, investment, infrastructure, and multilateral cooperation, the economic and trade cooperation has become increasingly close more than ever before. Ethiopia is actively advancing its accession process to the World Trade Organization (WTO). China is the first member to substantially conclude market access negotiations on goods and service trade with Ethiopia, signing a bilateral market access protocol in November 2025 to support its early WTO accession. On the early morning of 28th October, more than 10x40'ft HC have entre into the factory yards of Tengxing Engineering Group, we are ready to get all the elite steel long products, such as steel structures, steel frames etc. uploaded into the Containers shipped from Qingdao seaport, CHINA to Addis Ababa seaport, Ethiopia.

Bilateral trade maintained a growth trend. In 2024, bilateral trade volume reached $3.55 billion, a year-on-year increase of 17.5%, with China exporting $3.14 billion and importing $410 million. From January to June 2025, trade volume further increased to $2.03 billion, a year-on-year rise of 13.3%, with particularly notable growth in imports at 46.3%. China is Ethiopia's largest trading partner throughout the whole world, source of investment, and engineering contractor esp. civil construction engineering and road, bridge infrastructures EPC, while Ethiopia serves as a key source of sesame imports for China in Africa. China primarily exports machinery, textiles, and apparel, while importing agricultural products such as sesame, leather, cotton, and coffee etc.
